Friends of the UK School of Music

The Friends of the University of Kentucky School of Music was formed in 1992 by a group of twelve faculty, alumni, and friends at the invitation of Director of the School of Music, W. Harry Clarke. From this small beginning, the membership has grown to a large and vibrant entity dedicated to serving the School of Music.

The purpose of the Friends of Music organization is to support and serve the interests of the School of Music at the University of Kentucky by promoting the highest quality of instruction, music research and performance; and by the constant promotion of music as an art form, both to the campus and community, unencumbered by public taste, unrestricted by market value or institutional limitations.

Our goals are:

• To create an influential presence for promoting music as an important academic discipline as well as a cultural resource in the university community.
• To promote the recognition and appreciation of the School of Music through increased public visibility, publicity, publications and performances.
• To provide additional resources for enhancing the ability of the School of Music to teach, perform and create.
• To serve as a network for the encouragement of prospective students to attend the University of Kentucky as a music major, minor or participant.
• To create an organization which will allow friends and alumni of the UK School of Music to support its programs and objectives.

Major activities include:

• The Sunday Salons series, with music by our award winning students and faculty, accompanied by wine and food served in some of the area's most elegant homes.
• Moonlight black tie dinner dance fundraisers held in unique venues, including horse farms (Pin Oak, Gainesway) and the famous yet mysterious CastlePost on Versailles Road.
• Sponsorship of the annual UK School of Music Scholarship Benefit Concerts, held at the end of each academic year to celebrate the pinnacle of acheivement by our outstanding students. The concerts normally center around a major work for orchestra, chorus, and soloists.

All alumni and friends interested in the continued success of the School of Music are invited to join.
